This piece was inspired by the grand view from a hike above Tahquitz Canyon, one of the most beautiful and culturally sensitive areas of the Agua Caliente Band of the Cahuilla Indian Reservation. The hike offers interesting and varied terrain with a wide vista overlooking Palm Springs, CA. I created this piece with a limited palette of Cadmium Red Medium, Ultramarine Blue, Yellow Ochre, Indian Yellow, and Titanium White. Applied with palette knife, I scraped, smooshed, wiped, and cut into the linen with wild abandon to simulate the rough and scratchy texture of the Cahuilla's desert terrain.
This large piece is painted on gallery wrapped linen, varnished with a satin finish. It can be hung without a frame (gallery wrapped) for a clean, modern environment, or could easily accept a beautiful custom frame to suit your special environment.
